Wolf, Simon

(1836-1923)
   American communal leader. He was born in Hinzweiler, Germany, and emigrated to the US in 1848. Living in Washington, ne intervened with presidents and other government officials to obtain equity for Jews in America and abroad. From 1878 to 1911 he was chairman of the standing committee of the Board of Delegates of Civil and Religious Rights. He also served as consul-general to Egypt and as president of B'nai B'rith (1904-5).
